Conferences

Conferences are typically sessions recorded during a specially scheduled event typically featuring a keynote speaker but not limited to only one speaker. Conferences often feature a series of different speakers such as the annual Chafer Theological Seminary Pastors’ conferences.

2024 Chafer Theological Seminary Pastors’ Conference
March 2024

October 7, 2023 is a day that will take its place alongside 9-11 and December 7, 1941. The worst mass murdering of Jewish people since the Holocaust. Initially the vast majority in the world reacted in horror, fully supporting Israel. But before long, and much quicker than many expected, anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist rallies and riots and the defacing of synagogues began. Not unlike Kristallnacht 85 years ago brought to the Jewish people by the Nazis.

Many questions have begun to be asked in various quarters.

  • What is the source of this hostility to the Jewish people?
  • Are the Jewish people still God’s chosen people? If so, what significance do these events have?
  • Why are the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob special?
  • What is their destiny of promise?
  • How should we as Bible-believing Christians respond?
  • What does the Bible teach about their future in His plan?

These and other questions will be addressed by the incredible group of speakers that have come together for this year’s Chafer Seminary Pastors’ Conference. Our prayer is that you will be informed, enriched, challenged, and blessed this year.

DVDs of the conference can be ordered here (“regular” DVDs) or here (multimedia disc—with all conference materials—navigate to page 3). You must register on the DBM website so you can order these free materials.

Critical Issues for Understanding the Old Testament Text

Challenges to the veracity of the text of the Hebrew Bible have often been the starting point for doubts about the Bible and the beginnings of apostasy. These are vital issues often approached in summary in Old Testament Introduction courses.

At this year’s Chafer Conference, we have three experienced and well-qualified experts to address some of these challenging questions. For pastors this will be a rich time of building upon previous studies to look at the transmission of the Old Testament, the value of the Dead Sea Scrolls, and ancient translations for validating and illuminating the text of the Hebrew Bible.

On top of that, we will have the wonderful opportunity to dig into challenging questions about the transmission and preservation of the Scripture especially applied to some of the discrepancies between the Septuagint and the Masoretic Text of the Old Testament and other textual problems. These questions are significant for developing an accurate understanding of the chronology of the Old Testament.

For the enthusiastic Bible student, you will also gain an understanding of not only important background issues, but as these issues are referenced by your pastors at your home church, you will have gained a solid framework for understanding what is being taught.

Each evening we will also have the opportunity to focus on three important Scriptural passages as our Keynote speaker, Pastor and Missionary Jim Myers, takes us through God’s Word. Three passages of significance will be exegeted and explained for us in a way that will deepen our understanding of these passages, but also challenge us with their implications for our own spiritual growth.

Remember to check out the additional study materials related to the topics presented at this conference.

Chafer Theological Seminary Distinctives

It’s been observed that many church and seminary doctrinal statements do not always provide a clear portrait of the focus of an institution. Philosophies of ministry differ widely in groups with identical doctrinal positions. To further clarify the nuances of the Chafer Seminary focus, we have on our website our distinctives. But even that needs further clarification. Over the years, we have dedicated many of our conferences to further enhance our understanding of these distinctives.

One of our most significant distinctives is that of the sufficiency of Scripture, a phrase, unfortunately open to wide interpretation. One area in which we apply this is in the area of creation. We believe God’s Word is sufficient for informing us of how and when God created. We do not hold to views which compromise with current popular models of an old-earth creation. Our keynote speaker is addressing many issues related to creation.

Another distinctive is in the area of the Christian life. We hold to a distinctive, dispensational framework for understanding the spiritual life, experiential sanctification, in this dispensation. Two of this year’s presentations focus on aspects of this distinctive.

A third distinctive is a premillennial, pretribulational, classic dispensational view of God’s plan for history. This year four presentations will help refine our understanding of this distinctive.

Challenges to Biblical Faith

Our world and faith face significant and, in some cases, destructive assaults today. This year’s Chafer Seminary Pastors’ Conference focuses on some of these threats. These presentations are for any believer—theologian, pastor, or pew sitter—who needs to be informed, protected, and proactive against these pervasive errors.

Our keynote speaker, Mike Stallard, board member of Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry, an author, seminary professor, and Bible teacher, will present six topics related to contemporary issues in dispensational theology. These will alert you to destructive trends, focus your biblical thinking, and encourage and strengthen your understanding of dispensational truth.

Three of our speakers (Greg Allen, Dan Inghram, and Andy Woods) will help us understand the evil influence that is assaulting evangelical communities as culture has become the means of interpreting Scripture, rather than using Scripture to challenge our culture. This focuses on the inroads of Marxism, socialism, critical race theory, and social justice as the enemy inside the gates.

Our three evening speakers will encourage us from the Scripture. Dennis Rokser, Jim Myers, and Clay Ward will each focus our attention on the Scriptures teaching for our spiritual lives in chaotic times like these. The Bible illuminates us to how we can have joy, stability, and peace because Christ is our eternal hope.

Improving our Understanding of Biblical Worship

In the last half-century the understanding of the corporate worship of God in evangelical churches has undergone a radical change. Is this a change in a biblical direction? What exactly is worship? In his book, Recalling the Hope of Glory, Dr. Allen P. Ross states, “If worship loses its God centeredness, it ceases to be a holy convocation and may become something akin to a common assembly, a rally, a theatrical performance, or an awards ceremony. This is not true worship. People should come away from a worship service with a fresh awareness of the majesty of God, with a desire to glorify God, and with a renewed commitment to serve God.”

What is a biblical, God-centered worship service, and how do we structure it? Further, the very definition of worship has shifted from the broad application to all of what we do in church on a Sunday morning service, to only the singing. Is that valid? How should we address the many issues which have arisen along with the evolution of contemporary Christian worship?

Worship is at the center of our relationship with God. As we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ our worship should be transformed as well.

2019 Chafer Theological Seminary Bible Conference

Critical Issues in Old Testament Studies

The Old Testament is a wealth of foundational doctrinal information. From enormous sections of unfulfilled prophecy which are foundational to our eschatology, to vital Messianic prophecies central to Christology, our two keynote speakers this year focused on two vital fields of study for us.

Dr. Mark McGinniss helped us hone our skills at moving from exegesis to exposition. Even those who may not have facility in Hebrew, whether Sunday School teachers, home-school teachers, or for personal enrichment, all learned an incredible amount from Dr. McGinniss.

Then Pastor Steven Ger with Sojourner Ministries took us through the Messianic prophecies of the Old Testament. We learned why many seminaries today minimize these crucial passages and the detail these critical passages provide about the promised Savior and Deliverer.

We all came away with a much greater understanding and appreciation for the Hebrew Scriptures from this year’s conference.

DVDs of the conference can be ordered here (“regular” DVDs) or here (multimedia/AVI DVD—with all conference materials—navigate to page 2).

God’s Plan for Marriage and the Family Seminar (Chafer 2018)
June 2018

There is little doubt that God’s design for marriage and the family are under tremendous assault today from virtually every side. Modern marital and family life constitutes a great source of struggle for most. Many are even seeking to redefine these important institutions. Consequently, our culture finds itself in great confusion on these vital subjects. Yet, are these institutions really ours to redefine?

In such an environment, a fresh look at God’s blueprint for marriage and the family is desperately needed. Despite the contemporary moral chaos, we can observe that God’s eternal Word speaks directly to these very issues, just as it does to every area of life. Since God is the author of these institutions, they are not subject to mere human redefinition and manipulation. God has a plan and program for each of them. Consequently, this seminar is dedicated toward retrieving the original design for marriage and the family (Genesis 1–2), explaining how this original design was marred due to the Fall of Man (Genesis 3), and then outlining the Scriptural path toward living out the original design of God in a fallen world (Ephesians 5:22–33).

Understanding Islam

Islam has spread throughout the Western world in ways unimagined 40 years ago. During this time, jihadism has made Islamic terrorism normative. Yet, there are vast numbers of business and political leaders as well as church leaders who continue to speak of Islam as only a religion of peace. Some churches even include interfaith forums between Christians and Moslem leaders creating much controversy. With the rise of Islam today, what must the Christian know about this religion? What is their view of sin, salvation, and Jesus? What is their view of the future? What mandates about the world and the future are found in the Koran and the Hadith? Can there be detente between Islam and Christianity? What are the political realities of Islamic law called Shariah, and how is that impacting European countries and the United States and Canada?

To address these vital questions Chafer Seminary invited Shahram Hadian, a former Muslim who converted to Christianity as a young adult to help us understand the truth about Islam and the direction of modern Islamic movements. It is vital for Bible-believing Christians to be informed for the dual purpose of evangelism, as well as the political and civil decisions that must be made in relation to Islamic immigration.

This was the major focus of the conference this year. Eight sessions were devoted to the study of Islam. The other sessions focused on some vital studies of God’s Word where we were refreshed by the eternal truths of the Scripture. The following topics were discussed:

Bruce Baker: The Knowledge of God: The Starting Point for Apologetics. Romans 1:18–21

Bob Bolender: 1,000 Generations of the Dispensation of “The Fullness of Times”

Charles Clough: Interactive Session on Chafer Theological Seminary and You

Craig Northcott: The Local Church’s Role in Government

Andy Woods: 2 Thessalonians 2:3a: Spiritual Apostasy? Or Rapture?
