Passage: Colossians 1:21-23
Series: Colossians (2011)
Duration: 42 mins 42 secs
The word "hope" means different things to different people. Can it be defined as wishful optimism? Or trust and reliance? Or assurance of a future reality? Or confident expectation? All of these are recognized meanings of "hope", yet some come from a secular worldview and others come from a Biblical worldview. As we continue in our study of the Doctrine of Hope, we learn that hope is the Christian's calling. We learn that we are to be "reconciled to God" and live in a way that is set apart and distinct from the world around us.

Passage: Colossians 2:6-7
Series: Colossians (2011)
Duration: 53 mins 9 secs
The Greco Roman culture, not unlike our own culture, had no sense of sin. Yet we are again reminded by Paul, who uses the term 164 times, that we are "in Christ." But how do we receive Christ? How do we walk in Him? In this lesson, we learn that our walk experience is how we conduct our life, dependent upon God step by step and moment by moment. There are four keys in vs. 8 to walking in Christ. We are "rooted", we are "built up"; we are "established"; and we are "abounding". Understanding these concepts determines how your spiritual life grows and progresses. How well do you know doctrine? How is your own spiritual life growing?

Passage: Acts 9:1-21
Series: Acts (2010)
Duration: 1 hr 14 mins 23 secs
This class is taught on the eve of Yom Kippur. In recognition of that, Dr. Dean began class with a
short video of Aveinu Shebashabaim, a Hebrew prayer for the State of Israel, sung by the Chief Cantor of the Israeli Defense Forces. As Christians we recognize the importance of supporting Israel and the Jewish people in light of Genesis 12:1-3 and we appreciate how God’s love for Israel lives forever in His covenants and promises. Understand the real threats Israel and the Christian world face today and the Christian’s role in support of Israel. The conversion of Saul of Tarsus is an example of another witness for the faith shown throughout Acts. Was Saul, in his thorough knowledge of the scriptures, an Old Testament believer or was he covered in layers that suppressed the Truth in unrighteousness? How long after the crucifixion did this event take place? Did Saul’s commission include more than just the Gentiles? Get the sequence and significance of events that began on the road to Damascus and led to Paul’s baptism and the beginning of his ministry.

Passage: Acts & Topical
Series: Acts (2010)
Duration: 56 mins 57 secs
An apostle is someone who is sent. Some who were commissioned as apostles were sent out by congregations. We rely on scripture, historical sources, geographical sources, tradition and legend to map their routes and follow their personal stories. Find out which sources are more reliable and why. We DO know these martyred Apostles had a faith so certain that they were willing to give their lives to testify to its truth. Sort out each James to clarify his identity and his role in scripture: James, the brother of John; James, the son of Alpheus; James, the Lesser; and James, the brother of Jesus. What is it about Matthew that would make it out of the ordinary that he was so quick to follow Jesus?
