In the last couple of years the secular community and some in the religious community have woken up to the fact that much of the American Evangelical community is very supportive of the modern state of Israel. Guess what? They do not like it one bit! They see an ever increasing danger and even the possibility that Christian Zionism could bring about World War III. ...

Believers often think of the sufficiency of Scripture primarily in terms of its relation to psychology and church growth, and mainly negatively even in those areas. Mostly, “the sufficiency of Scripture” is a fence that keeps secular intrusions out of the church. However, the sufficiency of Scripture is a much deeper and richer concept in those two areas, and has much broader application beyond them. This paper will seek to survey some of the areas where believers are working hard to apply the sufficiency of Scripture, but it will also suggest a series of areas where we are not yet working hard, and we should be. ...

For those who are acquainted with what I refer to as the biblical framework approach to following out the implications of, and teaching the Word of God in our contemporary situation, this paper will be a review and update on using the framework approach cross-culturally with Muslim background believers. For those unacquainted with the framework approach, it will be an introduction and illustration of its use. Necessarily much of this paper is autobiographical in order to describe the origin, rationale, and method involved. ...

“Has anyone ever taken a Bible and shown you how you can know for sure that if you died today you would go to heaven?” This is one of the opening questions utilized by Evantel Ministries to present the gospel. I believe it is an excellent question. In fact, at the outset of this discussion let me clearly state that I believe the best way to present the gospel is with a statement concerning one’s assurance of salvation. I have been training people that way for decades, and my church has been the poster church for utilizing Evantel materials in our evangelistic training. So I believe opening a gospel presentation with the issue of assurance and ending the presentation with the same is the very best way to evangelize. For me, that is not the question. The question is whether that is the only way. Must the issue of assurance be addressed in order to lead someone to Christ? And a corollary question might be, must one believe in eternal security to be justified? ...

A Word to the Wise:

There is a danger in reading the theologies of our favorite authors in that we tend to accept their opinions as gospel without feeling a need to do a biblical double check on the jots and tittles of their work. It is the intent of this paper to demonstrate this by examining a few statements of the spiritual father of the seminary, Lewis Sperry Chafer himself, and at the same time achieving the noble goal of showing the superiority of the methods taught at his namesake seminary toward a refined biblicity of thought and action. The refined methods help prevent the transmission of error from one generation of theologians to the next, giving a better foundation for new men who take up the mission of grounding believers in biblical orthodoxy. The author does not intend to demonstrate a general laxity or tendency toward error on the part of L.S. Chafer. Far from it! But if an examination of a great man’s error leads to an affirmation of belief in sound method, then a great purpose is served. ...
